Well this blog is a bit of a mix and match, there will be training details and ideas, photos and write-ups of some awesome rides and scenery, as well as the random musings and internal workings of my brain whilst on lots of rather long and hot training rides and races – one of which was the inspiration for the title of this blog, inspired by the ‘Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun’ I had realised…in about hour 3 in 38 degree heat in the afternoon…whilst training to ride in the heat, that I hadn’t seen another soul (unless you count the 3 lizards and 2 snakes, one of which was dead) let alone another cyclist all ride, and thought I must be MAD!!!
So this is a bit about me, I had been cycling and time-trial racing in the UK for many years and over many distances, (but always favoured the longer distances) and having moved to Spain in 2014 I had more time for training and started looking at the cycle racing options here. Well there’s not really anything on the time trial front! but there is no shortage of MTB and road racing to be had and some fantastic locations and courses.
So having raced quite a few local MTB races I plunged myself into ‘La Rioja’ bike race, 3 days of MTB marathon stages…well gruelling to say the least but that piqued my interest in other long distance events, so that was it I spotted the ’24h ciclo curcuit’ a 24h road race on the moto GP track at Valencia and got stuck in to some very long training days, nights and morning…and yes in the midday sun!
You can read all about it on my blog page.
